I feel he was chosen for this campaign based on his image, and how it would create the same image for Dos Equis beer. A man of so many talents and interesting facts would only drink a beer as interesting and great as himself. I felt as if there was an obvious humor based on the interesting facts assigned to Jonathan Goldsmith. I feel that the amusement of these interesting characteristics assigned to Mr. Goldsmith are what lead to the creation of the specific meme and the humor created in it. The Internet Wayback Machines are where the meme generator was initially created, that gave individuals the opportunity to create memes based on, "The Most Interesting Man in the World." This quickly lead to the creation of its own Quickmeme page to create the memes. Not all but several of the memes created are very inappropriate but I find to be extremely humorous. This may only be humourous to people such as myself based on my interest towards inappropriate humour. The memes published all follow the phrase, "I dont always drink, but when I do, I drink Dos Equis."
The phrase is used in creating the memes, but has the words changed slightly in order to create the humor. The first meme image created followed the phrase, "I don't Masturbate Often, But When I do I use Women." Knowing this phrase is clearly inappropriate many individuals as myself still laugh and find humour in it. Without this audience this meme may have not created such a popular impact in the media world.
This meme has become extremely popular based on the humorous aspects of why Jonathan Goldsmith was named "The Most Interesting Man in the World." He's is seen as "the white-bearded and gravel-voiced character, the one who can parallel-park trains and warn psychics. Reading the memes I always pictured his character to be very nonchalant, and mainly focused on the cool aspect of his character. I believe that the way he is always described in social media uses descriptions to give off cool characteristics. Doing my research I found that Jonathan Goldsmith is not an individual merely based on the characteristics described in the videos. He is a man of intelligence and is extremely fond of giving to those in need. He helps in terms of donating for financial needs, and has performed physical actions to help those in need. An example of these actions was a time that he saved a drowning girl in Malibu. Its incredible how social media can create such a different image on an individual in comparison to what they are like in real life. Also how memes can be created through an individuals perceived character.
